It is the first step to your dream of becoming a civil servant. Here are five crucial tips to crack the IAS Prelims 2019.
Tip 1: Do not make major changes to your routine
Have faith in your preparation strategy and stick to your study schedule. Do not completely alter your time table at this point. Just because a change in strategy helped a topper, does not mean it will work for you. Now is not the time to discard your preparation plan and begin with a new one. Believe in yourself and your strategy.
Tip 2: Revision is the key
With a huge syllabus and many subjects to be covered, multiple revisions only can help you remember things better. The importance of revisions before the IAS Prelims cannot be emphasized enough. The entire syllabus has to be revised at least twice before appearing for the exam. Keep revising the NCERT Notes, Current affairs notes etc from time to time.
Tip 3: Subscribe to a Test Series
A good test series from a reputed institute will help you get the real feel of the UPSC Prelims. You will get a fair idea of the type of questions that will be asked. Solving a good number of papers will help you come up with your own strategy with respect to elimination of answers, skipping the questions not known to you, taking calculated risks etc. Timing your tests will also help you manage time, something that is of utmost importance during the exam.
Tip 4: Do not ignore CSAT Paper II
Do not underestimate the importance of CSAT Paper II for Prelims. Though Paper II is a qualifying paper, it cannot be ignored. You must score at least 33% of the marks to get through the exam. The difficulty level of Paper II is steadily increasing and the paper has to be taken seriously. Solve a good number of previous year question papers and learn few tricks, short cuts to solve the questions quickly.
Tip 5: Stay calm and confident
It is natural to feel under-prepared just before the exam. Understand that this is just a screening test, clearing the Prelims exam is an entry ticket to Mains. If you have gone through the NCERTs, read some standard UPSC books, followed current affairs regularly and revised enough, you are one among the few serious aspirants who have enrolled for the examination. Your competition is just with the best ones and anxiety will only reduce the likelihood of success. Only staying calm and confident will help you clear the exam.
